Providing Perks Attracts Loyal Workers

Staff retention should be a priority for any business. Handling high turnover and training new hires lowers overall productivity. Even if the pay is just okay, every worker knows that fringe benefits are the big draw.

One daily challenge faced by working people is finding a place to park their vehicles. Public parking becomes a competitive sport with workers rushing to snatch the most convenient spots in the cheapest lots. The losers often end up late for work during the ten-minute trudge from their faraway parking space, but at least it was free, maybe. Designated parking outside your building or subsidized slots in nearby parking structures saves workers time and trouble, letting them take on the workday with gusto.

What do your workers do for lunch? Brown bagging may be inconvenient, but eating out every day is expensive. There’s also the problem of going off-site, finishing one’s food and getting back within the hour. When skilled workers have multiple offers, all else being equal, the organization with the most generous and comprehensive health plan for them and their families will be the likely winner.

Observe the correlation between quality of benefits and quality of staff. Give employees every reason to stay, and they’ll make every effort to stay.
