How to Make the Perfect Sandwich with Gluten Free White Bread

Let’s begin with this Glutafin gluten free sandwich recipe that uses gluten free brown bread, but this can be swapped out for gluten free white bread easily if you wish to do so. If you love the flavours of a New York deli sandwich, with pastrami, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, stack them on your gluten free bread of choice and top with gherkins or pickled onions.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of gluten free bread.
  • Sliced pastrami.
  • Sliced Swiss cheese.
  • Sauerkraut.
  • Pickled onions or gherkins.
  • American mustard.

Method:

  • Assemble the sandwich by adding mustard to the bread, stacking up the pastrami, cheese, sauerkraut and topping with pickles.

Quorn vegan club sandwich

This vegan, gluten free twist on the classic club sandwich brings together the best of veggie alternative meat in Quorn, packed into your gluten free white bread slice for a tasty sandwich.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of Quorn vegan chicken free slices.
  • 1 pack of Quorn vegan smoky ham free slices.
  • 6 slices of gluten free white bread.
  • 2 tablespoons of vegan mayonnaise.
  • 1 tablespoon of vegan pesto.
  • 20g of shredded iceberg lettuce.
  • 1 beef tomato, sliced.
  • 1 avocado, halved and sliced.

Method:

  • Mix the mayonnaise and pesto, spreading half of it across the two slices of gluten free white bread.
  • Top each slice with a quarter each of the tomato, lettuce, chicken free slices, smoky ham free slices, and avocado slices.
  • Top with another slice of gluten free white bread and repeat the process.
  • Finish the sandwich with the last two slices of bread and slice to serve.

Gluten free white bread

If you want to make your own gluten free white bread, look for gluten free flour mixes and follow this BBC Good Food gluten free bread recipe. You can bake this bread to use when making a sandwich of your choice.

Ingredients:

  • 400g gluten-free white bread flour.
  • 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • 7g sachet fast-action dried yeast.
  • 284ml buttermilk (alternatively, the same amount of whole milk and add a squeeze of lemon juice).
  • 2 eggs.
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Method:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.
  • Mix together the flour, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, and buttermilk.
  • Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients to make a sticky dough.
  • Grease a 900g loaf tin.
  • With oiled hands, shape the dough into a sausage shape for a loaf.
  • Place the dough into the tin, cover loosely with a piece of oiled cling film and leave somewhere warm for an hour until it has risen by about a third.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes until the loaf is golden and risen.
  • Turn out onto a wire rack and leave to cool for about 20 minutes before cutting it.
