Shopping in a Commissary Amid the Pandemic, Food

The pandemic has brought a lot of changes to the way things are done. This includes shopping in commissaries. Here are some basic rules you should follow when visiting a commissary.

Check the Hours

Some stores have at-risk only shopping times or reduced hours. Check with your destination, such as the Pittsburgh commissary, before going during your usual shopping time.

Look for Purchase Limitations

Many commissaries have had to place purchase limitations to ensure every customer gets a fair shot at necessary goods. This helps them keep their shelves full without having shortages of supplies. Before filling your cart with one item, ensure there are no limitations on it.

Leave the Reusable Bags at Home

Most commissaries have banned reusable bags. Your groceries will be placed in paper or plastic. You can conveniently recycle paper bags at home or take plastic ones to a bin near you.

Stay in Your Lane

Stay behind the plexiglass shield that has been placed in front of the cashier at the checkout line. Also, look for signs marking one-way aisles.

Don’t Use Cash

When going to a military commissary, use a credit, debit, gift, or MILITARY STAR card instead of cash. Also, note that cashback and check cashing services may be suspended.

Wear PPE

All commissary employees will be wearing proper PPE. Additionally, all customers who enter are expected to wear a face covering. Keep in mind that this is a federal policy. It can be found in any commissary across the world.

Get Screened if You Have Symptoms

The employees at your commissary will be screened before they start work. Therefore, you must get tested before going if you have symptoms to protect the employees.

Everyone has experienced changes brought about by the pandemic. If you want to stay safe while shopping in your local commissary, these are important rules to follow.
